Talk About Bringing a Knife to a Gun Fight…

Mar 29, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars

Day 1: WHAT A DOOSIE!!!

- Took care of tech, registration, pratice starts, and tires on Friday. I ended up just replacing the 2 front tires - 205/55R15 Federal SS535. The right rear is Dunlop ‘Super Sport’ All-Season, and the left rear is Bridgestone RE-170 All-Season. Yup… gonna get pwn’d!

Sienna (my sister decided to name Sentra that) in full race trim.

- Saw the other Sentra entry there - Dennis - Red SpecV SE-R w/ Kumho V710’s… and he was one of the slow G-Stock cars, good lord. Later, in impound, he and another guy noted that I probably belong in H-Stock (slightly better - i.e. I won’t be 2nd to last, but maybe 3rd to last, haha). Turns out, yup, I’m in H Stock, o well.

What a real G-Stock Sentra looks like - Dennis' SpecV SE-R running Kumho V710's.

- From what I remember, the Mini’s were leading the pack w/ 47’s -> 48’s. Dennis got into the 48 range by our 2nd set of runs for the day. I got into the high 54/low 55 range. There was an Acura RSX earlier in the day running a 65 (yay, I beat someone in my class), but he left early. One of the course workers noted the smell of a clutch going out as the RSX passed by on course. My reaction times were not great, but not bad, and at the very least pretty consistent. I was able to keep it at high .6xx -> low .7xx. It seems H-Stock guys were running in the 47-52 range… not much of a difference, haha. ProSolo - Plans Change Yet Again… *sigh*

Mar 27, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars

I was planning on getting the tires (whatever it was I end up getting) mounted Friday morning, which would give me enough time to clean her up, then head over to El Toro for the Noice QuickStart, tech, registration, and practice starts. Unfortunately, the tire shop, www.CityTireOnline.com, which was going to get the tires & mount/balance them, will not be receiving their “morning delivery” until approximately 1pm. I need to be @ El Toro by 2pm. Over the past week, I’ve been talking w/ City Tire’s rep Brian - he’s been VERY helpful and patient with all my questions.

Realistically, it’s not going to matter what tire I run or what class I will run in since I will get slaughtered pretty much no matter what.

The plan now looks to be ss535 205/55R15 in front (all season “high performance” Federal tires), and the stock Bridgestones in the back - I’m hoping this will cause the car to oversteer a bit. I’ll be waiting @
City Tire around lunch time & hope for a speedy delivery.

All-Seasons QV vs R-Compound National Champions - this should be interesting… well, maybe not for them, hahaha.

ProSolo This Weekend… G-Stock Here I Come!

Mar 26, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars

Looks like Candy will be @ the body shop longer than expected. Dropped by yesterday and she just had her body work completed & was scheduled for sanding.

That being said, I will be taking the Sentra to go get my ass kicked at the El Toro Pro Solo (as opposed to taking my 240sx to go get my ass kicked, haha). The only mod on the Sentra is the 17″ rims w/ 235’s in front -> which would put me in STX…

My plan is to put the stock rims back on and slap 225/50R15 Hankook RS-2’s on the stock 15×6″ & compete in G Stock vs all the Mini Cooper’s, eeekkk! From the Entry list, looks like most, if not all, are running R-Compounds for the event.

Man o man, what did I get myself into?

Here are the latest pictures of Candy with the completed body work, smooooottthhhh (click the picture for the main album):

Jon Goes Buttonwillow, Quoc-Viet Goes Fontucky, and Candy Gets Surgery…

Mar 23, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars, Rite Way Experience

Lots of things happening this past week or so.

1) Jon goes to Buttonwillow (believe it was a CSCC event) with his miata. IIRC, got 4th overall his first time out - congrats Jon!
Follow link to view the in-car video of the warm-up & first few laps before the camera decided to turn off:

Jon @ Buttonwillow Raceway - CSCC Event

I wanted to attend this event and help be Jon’s pit crew, however, I was busy getting the “new” intake manifold setup installed on Candy - that went half-okay… one step closer to a faster 240!!!

Quick Update… and Best Bumper Sticker, EVER!

Mar 14, 2008 in Undecided

Ok, quick update on everything. Joffrey’s sent me my sample this week, woo hoo! I’ll be doing a full coffee review w/ Ankur next week hopefully. Also test-fitted the turbo - turns out I will need to relocate the power steering and possibly tweak the a/c line, as well as redo the oil drain line and turbo dump pipe… so much work :(.

Unfortunately, I also snapped an exhaust manifold stud while tightening everything back up. Also got my magnetic racing numbers from a local autocrosser who does this on the side, woo hoo!!! This weekend, I’ll be working on the intake manifold side. Pictures will be coming soon - probably by next Sunday’s autocross practice.

And moment of the week: while leaving work driving to FRSport, I came behind this Dodge Durango (think it’s a Durango):

Best bumper sticker, EVER! hahaha.
