DIY: 240z Fuel Spill Splash Guard Protector Thing Retrofit into 240sx

Jul 26, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars, DIY: How To's

Kinda-useful kinda-sorta write up here.

A couple months back, I was checking out my uncle’s 240z & noticed a couple really neat things:

1) There is an engine bay “portable” light - super neat! More on that another time.

2) There is an oem fuel splash protector - keeps gas from hitting your paint when fueling!!!

I found a new one made by one of the 240z shops on eBay. Of course, you can probably just buy some rubber piece from home depot, like the ones people make front lips out of, but it was pretty cheap, so I said why not.

After it came in, I tried to install it the same way that it sat on a 240z; however the 240sx fuel sender unit is much smaller, so everything gets really cramped.

I decided to trim the rubber fuel protection thingy & fit it again. I trimmed a little too much - it will fit in but won’t stay connected since I took too much off the top. I was still able to wedge it in between the fuel sender unit & the chassis, so it worked out in the end.

Total project time: about 3-5 minutes

Equipment required:
- Scissors
- Rubber material or a 240z fuel splash guard (or whatever it is really called)

Step 1:
- Trim the splash guard

Step 2:
- Fit the piece - if you trimmed too much like I did (or just got a rectangular piece), you can wedge it between the fuel sender grommet & the chassis.

Great thing is, it actually works pretty decent! Normally I don’t spill any fuel at all: I give the fuel pump the “two shakes” and all is normally good. Yesterday, I went to fuel up & 2-3 drops escaped the fuel sender & landed smack dab onto the splash guard instead of my nice paint, YAY!

SAAB 93 Turbo “Recycle” Commercial

Jul 15, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars

“For the perfect balance of fuel efficiency and power, we take energy from exhaust and recycle it.”

GENIUS! I don’t care if most people don’t care for SAAB convertibles, their new marketing company makes great commercials, haha.

Bar’s Leaks Main Seal repair, bandaid or long term?

Jul 13, 2008 in Cars Cars Cars

My pops 99 RX300 with about 90k miles had a slight leak, and under the car I saw

RX300 Rear Main Seal Leak

Damn, that’s a seal. Coworkers informed me it was the rear main seal - and the Tranny needed to be dropped to get to it.

I google’d Rear main seal and found - Bar’s Leaks Main Seal Repair. Poured it into the crankcase, and put a lil extra 5w30 to replace the dripped oil, and now is the waiting game.

Bar\'s Main Rear Seal Repair

1 week later, there has been no new drips. I will update this month when I change the oil. As of right now, it looks like we saved 1,400 bucks! Of course, god knows what this stuff will to do the other seals, but hey thats for another day.

2008 Tour - Doping attacks again.

Jul 12, 2008 in Undecided

Manuel Beltrán, who rides for the Liquigas team of Italy and who is a former teammate of Lance Armstrong’s on the Discovery Channel team, tested positive for EPO after the first stage of the race. Beltrán was withdrawn under the terms of a contract that all of the teams signed with the Tour organizer.

If your a noob to the previous doping scandals throughout the years, this is a great history.

After 2006’s Tour de France winner Floyd Landis’ was proven by a french lab for mass amounts of testerone, put a bad vibe on the tour. However, we all thought as cycling enthusiasts that 2008 would be different. No one could be stupid enough to try taking EPO in 08, and not be caught, right? Nope. Manuel Beltran figured, hey I might as well try to get the edge and dope!

As of right now, hes been kicked out, and is under investigation from the French Police. He may screw over his entire team - Liquigas - and they may go home as well.

Manuel Beltran. you suck.

What happened to just blood, sweat and tears? I’m sure Lance has his head in his hands, and wishes that if he was still racing, he could bring up the enthusiasm to what it once was. I hate waking up at 5 am and hearing the pre race repeat “doping doping doping.”
You Suck Manuel Beltran. I hope your career is finished, and your reduced to selling rusty old bridgestone bikes with their original tires.

ChinaGrabber - Worst Customer Service I Have Ever Experienced.

Jul 01, 2008 in The Interwebs and PCs

Almost 2 months ago, I was looking for a new neat cell phone to replace my PDA phone. I wanted something different and smaller than the PDA style that is now catching on with everyone.

I found exactly what I wanted (in theory at least) @ ChinaGrabber.com:

May 9, 2008:
Looks neat, huh? It’s a watch, and it’s a cell phone! It was advertised as a QUAD Band Cell Phone Watch - still advertised as so. Comes with bluetooth, headset, FM radio, all sorts of stuff. The u200i cell phone watch is even detachable and can be used as a flip phone, NEAT!

After an hour or two of searching for this cell phone, I decided to pull the trigger and order from ChinaGrabber.com, despite their lack luster reviews from Google. So in the end, it’s my fault for ordering from there. However, the customer experience to follow was completely unexpected.

May 21, 2008:
After I received the phone, I quickly read through the manual, put in my SIM card, charged her up, & powered her on… “No Service”…
